I'd really appreciate a lesson on the clarinet's role in a small Ensemble, particularly playing a fill behind a vocalist or other solo instrument. What are the do's & dont's?

Also playing a polyphony role over the head in a traditional jazz band.

Also, what is meant by obbligato and counterpoint - I've heard these terms used in this context, but can't find any relevant information.
